Teach For America

Mission and Model
Computers for Youth (CFY) partners with high-poverty middle schools to improve the educational resources in students' homes, enhance parent-child interaction around learning, and help teachers connect classroom learning with the home. CFY's free home learning centers and family training enrich students' home learning environments and increase parents' confidence as learning partners. CFY's mission is to help low-income children do better in school by improving their learning environment at home.

2007 Performance Highlights
In 2007, the organization grew its annual revenue by 25 percent from $3.2 million in FY2006 to $4.0 million in FY2007, including in-kind hardware and software. CFY also increased number of students, parents and teachers trained by 20 percent from 4,655 to 5,535, including double the number of families served in Philadelphia, and a new site in Atlanta with 260 families. An external evaluation of CFY's program by Educational Testing Service found a statistically significant impact on achievement in CFY students' math test scores from 2006-07. CFY continued to increase its field leadership through working with legislators to draft a proposal amendment to No Child Left Behind, and by expanding its annual gathering of education technology executives from the nation's largest school districts.
