Kids Voting teaches students about citizenship, civic responsibility, democracy, and the importance of political participation by combining innovative classroom activities with an authentic voting experience. Kids Voting USA’s mission is to secure the future of democracy by preparing young people to be educated, engaged voters.
New Profit partnered with the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation from 2003 to 2007 to support Kids Voting USA in strengthening its network of community-based affiliates, facilitating expansion, and growing new capacities to create civic education policy change.
In 2007, the organization moved its headquarters to Washington, DC, and brought on a new CEO, John J. Barse, to lead future expansion and development. Barse brings significant executive experience from the telecommunications industry along with a track record of nonprofit board leadership. In 2008, Kids Voting will focus on high-quality execution of election activities and continued development and deployment of strategic initiatives in support of the growth plan.
