To unite parents and others in an effective grassroots voice to win
concrete, long-lasting improvements for public schools.
Stand for Children (Stand) builds local chapters of committed
parents, educators, and others willing to take leadership to
improve public schools, providing them with training and coaching
and helping them to identify best practice policy solutions.
Members then work together to win education reforms and
investments at the local and statewide levels.
- Grew annual revenues by 22 percent from $2.47 million in
FY2006 to $3.01 million in FY2007, and increased national
membership by nine percent from FY2006 to FY2007.
- Opened a new state affiliate in Washington, bringing the total
network to four states, impacting 1.6 million children annually.
- Increased individual philanthropic support from 43 percent of
total revenue in FY2006 to 56 percent in FY2007.
- Since 1999, Stand members have won 88 state and local
victories, improving the lives of more than 2.7 million children
and garnering more than $1.7 billion in new public funding for
schools and other children’s programs.
- Stand’s flagship affiliate in Oregon has played a key role in state
education reform and improvement. In 2007, Oregon Stand
helped create a statewide new teacher and principal mentoring
program, passed a law permitting local school districts to levy a
construction tax on developers for facilities funding, and helped
achieve an 18 percent K-12 state education budget increase, the
largest in state history.

In FY2008, Stand for Children will continue to grow its affiliates
in Oregon, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Washington, and
will create a multi-year strategy for national new site expansion
and influence.
